CS: GO October 22nd Patch – Content Analysis

 

A new update for Counterstrike: Global Offensive has arrived bringing the Halloween theme this week! There were also modifications made to Mirage and Inferno with this patch.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN
  • In game characters are now celebrating the spooky season with masks.
  • The spirits of fallen friends have again risen to haunt player death cameras (they show up in the world during death/freeze cameras in game).
  • When there’s no more room in Chicken Hell….
  • Added convar sv_holiday_mode (set to 0 on the server to disable holiday festivities).
MISC
  • Fixed radius damage from exploding HE grenade to not get applied to last bot\\\’s location where bot had been taken over by a human.

Halloween Flair

This event features last years flair but this time it includes a mask for each player model and zombie chickens. Of course the masks are Halloween themed, but also includes some Payday + Team Fortress 2 masks. The chickens this time are different then the ghost chickens from the last year event and now are zombie chickens.

Map Modifications

De_Inferno Changes

 

Boiler Room– It appears that the boiler has been stolen from it\\\’s room and the thief left their tools behind! According to the evidenced I provided below the criminals did not get very far with the boiler…

 

Modified Pillar– A new separate pillar model has replaced the pillars located in ruins/construction. The collision model has been updated to include the bottom portion now. The picture below shows the wireframe display of the physics collision models involved.

 

Eliminated Boost Spots– No-clip brushes have been added to certain spots to take away the ability of boosting at certain locations. The images below showcase a few of the boost locations.

 

Wind Chime Effects– A few months ago had the classic Inferno music added back to the Terrorist\\\’s spawn. Now this patch adds wind chime sound effects to the CT\\\’s spawn.

 

De_Mirage Changes

 

Extended Balcony– The floor space of the balcony has been made larger which causes the wall to be pushed back. This gives the defender the added possibility of hiding in another location. Also the back wall features a no-clip brush.

 

Sky Box– The skybox limitations between the B bomb site and CT spawn has been eliminated.

 

Apartment\\\’s Window– There were issues involving the wallsbangs in apartment\\\’s windows before the implementation of the new bullet penetration, and steps were taken to correct that issue. But now with the new bullet impact system the intended previous outcome was altered. In this case the extra wall stoppage was removed.

 

Flower Pots– The placement of the flower pots in the middle has been moved to decrease blocking sniper\\\’s view in certain situations.

 

Additional Community Stickers

Valve has continued to add community stickers to set 2 and this patch has added 6. The included stickers have most of them being Halloween related but in surprise fashion Dota 2 themed stickers were accepted.

Texture\’s Modification

There were changes to a few of the texture files within the client this week. These changes were made because of one of the two reasons: (1) There was a few mix ups within the code that used backslashes instead of a regular slash. In most situations the system will read the slashes as the same operator but in rare situations errors would occur. (2) With the new surface property system listing a few of these textures by their appearance would make more sense but this has caused some situations with the wallbangs. In this case a few textures had there property value changed from “stone” to “concrete”.

Inferno and Mirage Manifest Update

Inferno\’s and Mirage\’s manifest has been updated due to the developers working on the maps. Examining the manifest is where I found out about the music files 6 months before they were released. Within this patch it appears that the developers are working on a new character model for Ts and CTs called “Suit”. But the key change I would like to point out is that there is audio files for a new rifle called “TAC-21”.Below showcases all of the changes within the manifest:
